Paris Planning To Ban Cars Made Before 1997

Do you plan on shipping a car to Paris, France? If so, it’ll pay to read up on a few new laws and regulations that are becoming effective in the city of light. Beginning July 1, 2016, all cars made before 1997 and motorcycles made before 2000 will be banned from the city center on weekdays. You can read the original article here, but be forewarned that it’s in French. This might be a buzz kill for your international auto shipping plans, but there are reasons behind this decision. Simply put, Paris has a major smog and pollution problem. The city has made numerous attempts to improve air quality, but unfortunately their efforts have fallen short. Previous attempts at vehicle-banning include car-free days, where no cars were allowed to drive through the city center at all. The city also attempted to reduce lanes and encouraging citizens to take pedestrian and bike lanes instead. A little exercise never hurt anyone, but killing off the use of cars didn’t resonate very well. Will Paris’ Ban Help Improve Air Quality? As of now, Paris’ newest car ban is only the first step to improving air quality in the city. By 2020, the goal is to ban any cars that are older than 10 years old. Unfortunately, there are no exemptions for historic cars. If your car was made before 1997, it won’t be able to enter the city center during weekdays. Can Auto Transport Improve Air Quality? While admittedly it doesn’t make sense to ship your car to the grocery store or post office, auto transport can certainly help keep vehicles off the road otherwise. People who are driving long distances, or even across the country, can help the environment by choosing auto shipping. An auto transport carrier can typically carrier 10 vehicles, which can substantially reduce the amount of pollutants released into the environment. Auto transport might not be able to save the city of Paris, but it can be a big step to using fewer natural resources and keeping harmful gasses out of the atmosphere.
